Design and technology

Design and Technology offers students a chance to explore their creative abilities by designing and making products for modern day environments. Joining us in Year 9, students who opt to take Design and Technology will be exposed to a range of designing techniques and workshop tools to forward their ideas.

techMoving into Year 10, a very popular option for students is the GCSE in Design and Technology. This course is suited to keen students which wish to push their designing and making skills onto the next level. There is no material bias, so there is a hands on approach with wood, metal, plastic, textiles and card. Year 10 students gain material and theory understanding in the previously mentioned areas through mini projects to prepare them for the Non Examined Assessment during Year11.

techWe offer an A level course in Design and Technology:Product Design. This stretches students' ability at the higher end, with more in depth studies of the varied material areas. This is in conjunction with rigorous mini projects to understand their clients and the marketability of the products they design and make.

Students from KS4 and KS5 are invited to various extra curricular visits, such as the Rotary Technology Tournament to which we have seen great success in years gone by. We have had tours of the Renault F1 Factory, Oxfordshire,  the Design Museum, Royal College of Art and New Designers Exhibition in London.
